Ladies and Gentlemen, we have waited for Mephisto for so long that even Spider-Man would not have taken that much time to propose to MJ. But finally after years of theories, hints, and Easter eggs the big bad demon is here. Yes, we got a glimpse in Ironheart, but let’s be honest, it was just a teaser. The full blast of Mephisto is yet to happen in MCU.

But one second, who is this Mephisto? Where did he come from? Why is he so dangerous? And what is his role in Marvel Comics?

Friends, if you feel that Thanos or Kang shook the Marvel Universe, then Mephisto is about to rewrite the rules of reality literally. Sit back, because this is the story of deception, destruction and demonic deals.

Who is Mephisto? The Origins of the Marvel Devil

First of all, let’s make it clear that Mephisto is not “the” Devil from Biblical Hell, but in the Marvel Universe, he might as well be. He rules over a pocket dimension named “Hell,” where souls are tortured for Mephisto’s twisted entertainment.

Ancient Beyond Time: The First Cycle Entity

Galactus belongs to the Fifth Cycle of the Marvel multiverse. But Mephisto? He’s from the First Cycle. Meaning, since the first version of multiverse was in existence, Mephisto has been chilling here. This guy has seen multiple cycles of life and destruction. He doesn’t just have power, he has the experience of  time which nobody else has.

And, he is not a typical villain who just runs around. Mephisto manipulates. He makes deals. And the biggest thing is that he controls you through your greed.

You must have heard the name of Ghost Rider, fire skull, chain whip, fire on bike. But do you know who is the real creator of Ghost Rider? Not Marvel, not some ancient spirit, it’s Mephisto.

There was a time 10 lakh years ago, when a boy was alone in the snow after Wendigo killed his tribe. Then a talking snake came to him and told him “take the power, take revenge.” Guess what? That snake was Mephisto. The boy became the first Ghost Rider.

Now think, Ghost Rider started with Mephisto. Be it Johnny Blaze or Robbie Reyes, all are ultimately his creations. Is it a coincidence that all Ghost Riders have a backstory of pain and sacrifice? No, that’s Mephisto’s signature.

You must be thinking what does Tony Stark have to do with this? there is a story in Marvel Comics where Tony time travels and reaches 1 million B.C. There, his suit is losing power, he is in desperation… then a snake comes in front of him.

Victor Von Doom’s story is incomplete without Mephisto. Doom’s mother Cynthia was a gypsy who had to face injustice. She made a deal with Mephisto for revenge. But every action has a price. Every soldier killed by Cynthia also lost an innocent child.

After Cynthia’s death, Doom read her magical books and made a plan to take revenge from Mephisto. But guess what? Every year Doom fights against Mephisto in Hell… and always loses. Every defeat earns Doom respect in Latveria. Still, he comes back again and again.

Norman Osborn, aka Green Goblin, also made a deal with Mephisto. But the twist in the deal was that Norman did not even remember it. Imagine a businessman who sold his and his son’s soul and did not even remember it.

That’s why Harry Osborn and Norman both became unstable. Mephisto was torturing their subconscious mind without them knowing. That’s how powerful this demon is. He plays the long game.

Billy and Tommy Wanda’s twins are actually soul shards of Mephisto. What? Yes! Master Pandemonium accidentally created them from Mephisto’s soul shards. Wanda thought of them as her children, but as soon as Mephisto found out… he took them back.

Mephisto built a hotel “Hotel Inferno.” From there he started corrupting people. Inside the casino he collected people’s souls by storing them in coins and gold bars.

Avengers vs Ghost Riders

When Doctor Strange and Avengers confront him, Mephisto transforms them into Ghost Riders. An epic battle takes place. Midnight Sons like Blade and Moon Knight also join the fight.

And then OG Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze returns. Mephisto falls from the top and kills him… but this was part of Wong’s master plan. Johnny Blaze then goes to Hell and takes Mephisto’s throne. Now imagine Johnny Blaze ruling Hell!

Khonshu, Apocalypse & 100 Mephistos!

Moon Knight’s god Khonshu gets a future vision. He fights against Mephisto by absorbing Apocalypse’s power. But the twist? Mephisto calls 100 versions of himself from the multiverse. 100 Mephistos… in one day!

From here, we understand that multiverse saga is going in the MCU, and Mephisto could easily become Kang-level or beyond.

Spider-Man’s Tragedy: The One More Day Deal

Everyone remembers “One More Day.” Peter made a deal with Mephisto to save Aunt May. In return? His marriage with MJ got erased from existence.

But the matter does not end here. Mephisto is afraid of Peter and MJ’s future daughter Mayday Parker. Because she is the one who will stop him from taking over Earth.

That’s why Mephisto wants Peter and MJ’s love to be broken… permanently.

Why Mephisto is the Ultimate Villain for the MCU

Think about it. Mephisto is not like Thanos who can destroy half the universe in a snap. Mephisto is that manipulative entity who silently ruins everyone’s life and then says, “You were the one who did the deal.”

He doesn’t have any Infinity Stone, yet he made multiple superheroes fight with each other. Created Ghost Riders. Broke Peter’s marriage. Tortured Doom every year. And most of all he influences future events by twisting present decisions.

MCU Future: Is Mephisto the Path to Doom?

Ironheart has given a teaser of Mephisto. But Marvel will not waste such a character on small things. It is possible that at the end of the Multiverse Saga, Mephisto will turn out to be a mastermind who is manipulating everything, even before Kang.

And imagine if MCU uses Mephisto for Doctor Doom as well?

What if Doom’s origin is also tied to this exactly like the comics?

Is it possible to win over Mephisto?

Honestly? Only if the heroes learn one thing never make a deal with the devil. But this is easy to say. When there is a desperate situation, the charm of a manipulator like Mephisto works.

If Mephisto makes a proper entrance in the future of MCU, then he will not be just a villain… this will be a new era.

If you think that Thanos or Kang were the most deadly Marvel villains, then forget it. Mephisto is on a whole other level ancient, manipulative, unpredictable. MCU has just started showing his horns, the full face is yet to be seen.
